🔹 Transmission Line – Interview Q & A
1️⃣ What are the main components of a transmission line?
Answer:
A transmission line mainly consists of towers, conductors, insulators, earth wire (OPGW), foundations, and hardware fittings. Towers support the conductors, insulators provide electrical isolation, and the earth wire protects the line from lightning. Proper foundation ensures structural stability.
2️⃣ What is the difference between 220kV and 400kV transmission lines?
Answer:
The major difference is voltage level and power carrying capacity. A 400kV line carries more power over longer distances with lower transmission losses compared to 220kV. Tower height, conductor spacing, and insulation level are also higher in 400kV systems.
3️⃣ What are the stages in transmission tower erection?
Answer:
The stages include:
- Site survey and marking
- Excavation and foundation casting
- Stub setting and curing
- Tower assembly and erection
- Conductor stringing
- Sagging and tensioning
- Final inspection
Each stage must follow quality and safety standards.
